Sustainability and ESG Essentials: Your Journey to Sustainability Starts Here
An Overview of the Most Important and Urgent Topic of Our Time

Government regulations, consumer pressure, investor demands and a general perception that
the world is currently on an untenable path have all contributed to ‘Sustainability’ and ‘ESG’
(Environmental, Social and Governance) becoming some of the most discussed topics of our
time. But what exactly do Sustainability and ESG mean, what are the risks involved in ignoring
them, and how can individuals and organisations start their journey towards achieving them?
This course will answer these questions and more, providing you with a powerful new
capability to do your part and help build more sustainable organisations, communities and
    societies.
    Objective
The aim of this course is for you to understand the essentials of Sustainability and ESG, comprehend the associated risks facing society and businesses, and discover how to start
turning some of these concerns into opportunities. Participants will come to realise the threat that the living world currently faces, the consequences of inaction, as well as the social,
economic and environmental benefits of becoming more sustainable; receiving critical new knowledge that can help their organisations and the world at large.
    Outline
The Critical Need for Sustainability and ESG
A brief introduction of Sustainability, ESG and the movement towards Sustainable
Development will be provided. We present a compelling case for the need to change
our thinking and our practices for the benefit of all stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees, communities and the planet. The clear trend is that more and more organisations are embracing sustainability, ‘going green’ and investing significantly in ESG not only because it is the right thing to do but also it is the smart thing to do for business and the economy at large.

Sustainability at Global and Organisational Levels
A brief overview of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and how nations and
organisations align towards them, as well as an overview of ESG (Environmental, Social
and Governance). The clear trend is that more and more organisations are embracing
sustainability, ‘going green’ and investing significantly in ESG not only because it is the
right thing to do but also it is the smart thing to do for business and the economy at
    large.

ESG Risks: The Price to Pay for Inaction
We will examine the current events of stakeholder activism, government policies and societal trends that are all leading to the urgent need for Sustainability. Organisations
who do not fully comprehend the Physical and Transitional Risks associated with not embracing ESG will face the risks of increased costs, damaged reputation, missed revenue opportunities and other negative outcomes such as a reduced ability to retain and attract key talent.

    Turning Risks into Opportunities
With every risk comes new opportunities and the organisations who embrace these are more likely to be successful over the next few decades as the world shifts to a Circular, Net-Zero Economy. The movement has already started, led by forward-thinking, longterm orientated and innovative businesses and institutions. We will present multiple
examples of how organisations have leveraged sustainability to decrease energy usage, reduce wastage, lower carbon emissions, minimise materials usage, etc for financial gain as well as improved competitiveness, employee morale and brand image.

    Starting Your Journey to Sustainability
What are the next steps? We will have an open team discussion of learnings
and personal experiences. We will share perspectives on approaches that can
be utilised to start the journey towards Sustainability. Methods for continuous
follow-up and learning will be recommended, including further coursework, reading, and other developmental approaches. As a conclusion, Key Points for
the Sustainability Journey will be presented for final thoughts.
    Who should attend
This course is aimed broadly at staff, professionals and managers who are proactive in nature and are looking for a practical course to help them start the journey towards sustainability by understanding the essentials of Sustainability and ESG. The course is designed to be relevant to all kinds of industries and across the private sector, public institutions and non-profits.
